Core irrigation services.
These sections outline the company's main service areas using the same claims and service categories presented across its core content.
Irrigation Design
Each system is based on the specifics of the lawn and landscape. The process includes mapping the landscape, assessing the water supply, creating hydrozones, selecting sprinkler heads, and preparing the completed design for review.
- Design factors include sun and shade ratio, slope, soil conditions, and future projects.
- The water supply assessment considers size, PSI, and flow rate.
- Hydrozones align watering with sun exposure, trees, gardens, and ground cover.
Sprinkler System Installation
Sanderson & DeHaan installs new sprinkler systems for homes in Kalamazoo and Portage. The process includes a free site visit consultation, proposal review, installation, and follow up system use.
- Most underground sprinkler systems install over one to three days depending on size and complexity.
- Installations are custom, carefully planned, and designed for efficient watering and long term reliability.
- The process includes timing considerations and post installation inspection.
Irrigation System Repair
Systems may need changes over time because of maturing landscapes, shifting ground, added structures, blocked heads, nozzle issues, or coverage problems.
- Repair topics include blocked heads, tilted or low heads, poor spacing, and coverage adjustments.
- Repair and service are available during the irrigation season.
- Repair remains part of ongoing system care rather than a one time service.
Start Up, Winterization, and Service Agreements
Sanderson & DeHaan offers spring start up, fall winterization, service agreements, and annual backflow testing.
- Spring start up includes pressurizing the system, inspecting the backflow preventer or pump, manually testing each zone, and helping program the controller.
- Winterization protects heads, pipes, and valves from freeze damage.
- Service agreements provide savings on spring and fall services and on irrigation parts and labor throughout the season.
System components and planning details.
System layouts and component choices are based on the needs of the property rather than a single standard setup for every yard.
Controllers
Controllers maximize efficiency, including Hunter Pro C controllers and Hunter Hydrawise Wi Fi controllers with web based software.
Weather Sensors
Well designed irrigation systems include weather sensors that prevent watering during wind, rain, and freezing weather, with rain shutoff and flow monitoring features.
Heads and Drip Irrigation
The team selects a combination of rotors, fixed sprays, or drip irrigation to deliver the right amount of water for each area without wasting water on hard surfaces.

Irrigation Design
These reviews emphasize property specific planning, customization, and design quality.
Jon designed the sprinkler system specific to my odd shaped triangle yard that has some decent slopes, paying close attention to my neurotic requests like not watering my vegetable garden, not spraying my perennial gardens, but still completely covering the area needed. The turnaround was quick and the install was painless. He came out soon after install to make sure i was happy and address a couple heads. He left only after making sure I was happy with everything. I couldn't be happier with my system from Sanderson & DeHaan and so far my lawn renovation is going flawlessly. Thanks again Jon!
Wonderful group of people! Very professional and knowledgeable. They helped us design a system and delivered a great solution. We have 10 zones and 50+ sprinkler heads. I thought they were reasonably priced. They also offer a hybrid offering allowing you to do some of the labor if you want to save some money.
Rich will work with you to get the best system in your yard for a consistent green coverage all summer long! Professional and reliable!
Sprinkler System Installation
These reviews focus on scheduling, installation quality, professionalism, and post installation care.
Rich, Marcus and the entire installation crew were amazing! They got us scheduled sooner than estimated, completed the work on time and were very responsive, respectful and professional. I highly recommend them for your lawn sprinkler installation. Also, the upgraded WiFi controller with the app is so easy and convenient. Great job, guys and THANK YOU again!
Wonderful company! We worked with Jon Dehaan most of the time and he was the definition of professional and courteous. All the work was done in one day, and the tear up of our lawn was very minimal. We had some well problems soon after they were installed and they came out for free multiple times to help adjust our settings and make sure it was the well, and not the actual sprinkler system. Jon even dropped by the house the other day because he was in the area and saw me outside just to ask how the well situation was going, and told us that if there was anything else he could do just to let him know. All in all our actual system works great.
Yes, completed in one day. Brought several workers. Had to remove and replace fencing to access back yard. Left markers for each of the sprinkler heads so a lawn rolling company would not roll over the new sprinklers.
Irrigation System Repair
These reviews highlight troubleshooting, repair work, restored function, and follow through during service.
One of my zones hadn't been working for a couple years; another company tried to fix it but that was a massive fail. Sanderson Dehaan came out and when the lower level tech couldn't figure it out, his manager dropped by to work on things. Between the both of them, they figured out the problem, and fixed it good as new.
Had a tech out to replace a few sprinkler heads, and when I mentioned we had a dead zone he went way above and beyond to restore full function. I couldn't be more satisfied.
I've used Sanders & DeHann for years for start up & close down Sprinkler service. You really have to plan ahead to get on the schedule at the beginning of the season to get your sprinklers turned on. It's always been uneventful until this year when someone unexperienced started up my system and didn't do a complete job. I called and asked to have somebody come out and Check the startup service because not all of the sprinkler heads were popping up. The young man arrived promptly at the beginning of the window, And was very courteous and did everything that I asked. He even suggested that two of the sprinkler heads that were not working very well that I had previously been told didn't work due to the roots should be replaced because the heads were not working well and low and behold, they work perfectly now! He was fast and efficient and adjusted a couple of the other sprinkler heads so they sprayed further and asked if there was anything else he could do. He also adjusted the timer for the sprinkler system did everything less than an hour! Well, done college friend, And very good hire Sanderson!
Start Up & Winterization
These reviews focus on recurring seasonal service, accommodation, and long term customer trust.
S&D are all great people to work with. I had a wireless module installed and forgot how to work it. Marcus showed up at our place on Saturday and got us all taken care of (and this was user error on my part). They start up and winterize us every year and are always on top of it, courteous and professional.
Reasonable price I have an old complicated system, 12 zones with two hook ups. I still have an old analog clock system but it still works. They have always been accommodating. Cassandra came out today to do the final blowout. She was on time, very competent, and easy to work with. Thanks Cassandra!
We contract them for two years to do the start up and for the take down of that system. So we pay two years in advance. I still have the work to be done in the spring and probably fall of the next year on this contract before I could pay again. It's less than $200 for having them start it and having them shut it down four different times. It's a good deal if you buy ahead of time. They are the ones who come back since they had installed the irrigation system. There are other companies like the lawn guys who offer to do that, but I don't want them to do that. They didn't install it and they don't know where everything is. So I will always use the company that put it in to come back and take care of it. They know where all the sprinkler heads are. They have mastered out and they made the drawings to do the work. Their estimate was fair and it has probably been at least five years since we had it done. There are a couple of companies that have come out. Their estimate might not have been the least expensive, but was the most comprehensive one compared to what they were going to do and what they offered to do. So I like them. They are a local company. We will keep on using them.
